With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ingrid Genevieve McClinton, who peacefully passed away in her home on Orcas Island, Washington, surrounded by her closest family and loved ones.

Ingrid Genevieve McClinton
Born in Mobile, Alabama, Ingrid felt deeply connected to her Southern roots and cherished the Deep South throughout her life. She lived in Alabama until 1952 before moving to Texas, where she resided in Houston, Pasadena and Dallas. In 1962, she relocated to Mount Vernon, Washington, and finally, in 1965, she found her true home on Orcas Island, where she would spend the rest of her life.
For over 40 years, she dedicated herself to keeping the Sea View Theatre a beloved community gathering place. Ingrid found joy in her farm, her garden, and the island she loved. She was mother to Marlace Hughes and Maygan Fowler, and a devoted grandmother to Ricky Hughes and Gavin Hughes.
A quote pinned to her office wall perfectly captured her spirit: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘WOO HOO, what a ride!”
Her big heart and unforgettable sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A private celebration of Ingrid’s life will be held with her family and closest friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Orcas Island Animal Protection Society or the Orcas Island Film Festival, honoring her memory and the causes she held dear.
May her spirit live on in the hearts of those she touched.

My heart breaks to hear of Ingrid’s passing. I cherish so many fond memories of her on Orcas Island. We met as young Mom’s and getting together with our kids so they could play together and we could share what was going on in our lives as well. She became a babysitter for my two kids while I worked . Easter egg hunts that she invited her friends and their kids to at the Fowler pond each year was fun for all of us. A special New Year’s get together at Bartell’s Resort still makes me laugh and smile. You were full of fun and laughter Ingrid and I will love you always. Hope we meet up again in another life. Condolences to Marlace and Maygan and your families.
Thinking of you, Marlace, and your family, during this sad time.
So many good memories for the short time my family knew Ingrid. What a spicy, fun, and kind soul to everyone that crossed her path! We will miss you dearly. Sincere condolences to Marlace and family.
Dear Marlace and family,
Sorry to hear of Ingrid’s passing .Your Mom and I shared a special kinship of respect and caring that lasted through the years . We always had a good laugh about something whenever we saw each other. She is on my list of warm memories of my life on Orcas.
Gone but not forgotten. My deepest condolences to all family and friends of Ingrid. RIP
Ingrid was someone I loved seeing. Every time I saw her, it was a treat. She always had kind words, a big smile, and a great outlook on life. She had this way of making you feel valued and important. I admired the heck out of her – a giver, a community person, salt of the earth, and lover of life. I’ll miss her, her beautiful smile and sparkle – she touched my heart, and so many others’. Thinking of you, Marlace and sending love from my heart to yours. You made a beautiful tribute to your mom and friend. Heartfelt condolences to family and friends who loved Ingrid. We will keep her in our hearts and memories.
Oh Marlace I am so sorry for your loss. So many memories of your mom. She and my mom were great buddies. Loved to talk gardening. One day they both bought small red maples together. Hers has grown into a large beautiful tree in her field. Thanks Donna fir the reminder of that Bartells New Years. So fun and Ingrid was dressed to the nines! Ingrid was one of a kind and will be missed.
I am saddened to hear of losing a dear friend in Ingrid,we go back so many years as young moms, raising our kids from about age 2,on to now.Lots of fun and laughter through the years. She was a great person, and I will miss her , condolences to her family.
We were so sad to hear of her passing. What she did for the island by keeping the theatre going was an amazing gift of love. Her friendly spirit and infectious smile were always what a heart needed. We also got to watch her connect with young people on island who went to work for her, our daughter included. She taught work ethic, team work, and how to make change without allowing the use of a “damn machine to count for you.” She made sure the girls would visit on homecoming and prom nights so she could see them all dressed up. She hugged them when they needed it, and scolded them when that was what they needed too. Everyone raise a glass tonight to Ingrid…..we will!
