What do forgotten orchards and wild-growing trees reveal about our island’s future?
||| FROM STEPHANIE PRIMA for SAN JUAN GRANGE |||
Botanist Madrona Murphy returns to the Grange to share discoveries from her work with Kwiaht, the San Juan-based conservation research group. This month’s Islands Resilience lecture explores island-grown apples—some natural hybrids, some nearly lost to time—and what they teach us about climate adaptation, community resilience, and the importance of local genetics in food systems.

- Heritage Apples and Wild Hybrids: A Deep Look at Resilience Through Local Food
- Thursday, July 17 • 5:30–7:00 PM
- San Juan Island Grange Hall
Madrona will also share how islanders, even those without land, can get involved in documenting and preserving this edible legacy.
All are welcome. Free admission. Light refreshments provided. More info at sanjuangrange.org
