Tuesday around 11 a.m. the airport will have a Blackhawk helicopter come and pick up a set of stairs that are in the midfield tie down area, and transport it out to Point Doughty. Several people have asked me to let them know so that they can watch but this is also a notice not to be alarmed as well.

What are the stairs for? Some readers will know that much of Pt. Doughty is owned by State Parks, but that there is no legal access from the land side.
Brian — maybe some overly expensive stairs to replace this set of stairs?

Tracy, those have already been replaced. They are creating a new marine access point further east., just before DNR become private.
I am grateful to the Port for posting this little article. I have seen some alarming plane/helicopter things over the years and it was great to know what this was and fun to take a picture of it from my house. I always assumed a Blackhawk helicopter would be black but this one was red.
Thanks for the “heads-up” article about the Blackhawk arrival. I, and many others, were at the airport to see the arrival, loading and departure of the ramp and helicopter. The Blackhawk was a bright orange! Fun way to spend an hour or so.
