It may seem so…but you can help. We just need new britches.

A recent notification from theOrcasonian’s webhost has rocked our reality.
BlueHost has advised us that we need to upgrade our hosting due to our online presence exceeding our ability to maintain our present service level. We’ve done hosting upgrades previously, but this one requires a significant increase in fees. And, frankly, this is not just a surprise, but also a financial shock.
theOrcasonian began its online service in 2011 when Margie Doyle launched Orcas Issues, with an immediate response from new readers. When I purchased Orcas Issues from Margie around 2015, we became theOrcasonian and have continued to provide our audience with daily news updates from Orcas Island. Our readership has continued to grow, with thousands of readers and yet with only a couple hundred paid subscribers.
So, we have some decisions to make about how to continue our service, and your help is needed. Here is a suggestion on how you can assist.
**If you are reading theOrcasonian for free, thank your fellow islanders. If you would like to support theOrcasonian CLICK HERE to set your modestly-priced, voluntary subscription. Otherwise, no worries; we’re happy to share with you.**
Lin, Your site is an amazing source of immediate information that is very much appreciated by all who read it. To all readers out there who are able, please consider a monthly contribution. Orcas would be so much the poorer without the Orcasonian.
Come on, islanders, both full- and part-time. This is our daily source of local news. STEP UP!
Lin, what do you need to raise to keep the existing model going? Might you have time for a call to discuss.
Some disclosure of the actual hosting costs would be useful. There are many people on this island who are skilled with websites and might be able to suggest alternatives to the current host which would save money.
