— from Wendy Shinstine —

(Editor’s note: Wendy Shinstine is now the owner of Crow Valley Gallery in Eastsound; “Crow Valley in Town,” as it is familiarly known.)

[Michael Rivkin and Jeffri Coleman] have acquired a historical bed and breakfast in Pennsylvania where they are delighted to entertain guests with their cuisine and their endless supply of superb stories. Photos, contacts and memories are readily available to share with those interested. Please stay in touch for news of their adventures and updates regarding their return.

Michael and Jeffri wrote a few thoughts to share:

We are thrilled that the history of Crow Valley continues in Eastsound! One of the most difficult part of this transition for us was wanting to insure continuing a great platform for our artists, customers and friends alike. And this was a ‘natural’ in our friend Wendy— who knows well the ways of Crow Valley! We look forward to her continued fun and success with the gallery, and thank all for their support of Wendy.

While plans are still being formulated, several developments have occurred for our friends. First, they were able to avoid the closure of Crow Valley Pottery on Main Street. This would have been a great loss to their talented artist friends. Many of the 90+/- artist represented in the gallery have been sought after at the in town location since they opened the door eight years ago. The “cabin” of course has held the heart of the island since the pottery began in 1959. While featuring many of the artists in both locations – the ‘in town’ shop is known for being available year round for gifts and desired collections.

Michael and Jeffri are thankful that each of these artists and their admirers who both live here and who visit the island will continue to have Crow Valley on Main Street. Personally, I cannot express my gratitude for the trust which they gifted me with in their most generous offer for purchase of such a cherished gallery. I repeat this daily ” I would rather have them right here with me ” – with all of us. From myself and from each of the artists – we thank Jeffri and Michael deeply for seeing a way to continue this “must visit” location on Main Street for Eastsound.

The gallery is now separate from the original Crow Valley Pottery which is still owned by Michael and Jeffri. Thankfully they had the insight to add the word Gallery to the beautiful large tile sign which heralds the home of so many artists. Now operated as Crow Valley Gallery, the honor of carrying forward is that of the entire collection of artists and staff. We deeply appreciate the consideration and efforts of our founders.

We as a community have very large shoes to fill this season. The talents of Jeffri and Michael for events will be sorely missed in the festivals and at many a dining room table. Garden Festival, Artwalk, Potter’s Fest, and numerous annual events will require several new volunteers to continue the support we have lost. Crow Valley Gallery will put forth all efforts with the assistance of many others I’m sure.

While stories on an island can seem to have eight legs – the stories of choice are ones of positive memories, forward thinking ideas and well wishes. Visit often and enjoy the visual talent and appreciate the talents that brought such artistic success to life. Sharing news of [Michael and Jeffri’s] newest adventure is a favorite in the gallery.
Crow Valley Gallery will thrive – in honor of our enthusiastic mentors of the arts.

Thank you Michael and Jeffri.
