Imagine seeing internationally acclaimed musicians perform in the intimacy of a comfortable living room. On Saturday, February 12th the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival (OICMF) will introduce its first “Salon Concert: Bringing Chamber Music Home” with the world-famous Gryphon Trio. The trio is comprised of Annalee Patipatanakoon, violin, Roman Borys, cello and James Parker, piano (also the brother of OICMF Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker). They will perform selected works of Brahms, Haydn, Piazzolla and Hatzis.
With a repertoire that ranges from traditional to contemporary, from European classicism to modern-day multimedia, the Gryphons are devoted to redefining chamber music for the 21st century. They are Artists-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and have been the ensemble-in-residence at Music Toronto for eight years.
Roman is Artistic Director of the Ottawa International Chamber Music Society, where Annalee and James serve as Artistic Advisors. Deeply committed to the education of next generations of audiences and performers alike, the trio takes time to conduct master classes and workshop at universities and conservatories across North America. The Gryphons will also perform and teach as Musicians-in-Residence at the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival, Aug. 12-27, 2011.
“All three members of the Gryphon Trio are award-winning musicians in their own right; together they are a powerhouse.” Maui News The house concert will be a unique opportunity to enjoy exceptional artists in a personal setting. The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival plans to present several Salon Concerts each year in a variety of venues, in response to growing audience interest.
The Salon Concert begins at 4 p.m. with hearty hors d’oeuvres by Orcas Village Store and wines by Thurston Wolfe Winery. Ticket price is $70 and seating is limited. Please contact the Chamber Music Festival Office at 376-6636 for reservations.
