Gov. Jay Inslee today announced he will extend the eviction moratorium to March 31, 2021. The current eviction moratorium was set to expire on December 31.
“COVID-19 has had a significant financial impact on Washingtonians over the last nine months,” Inslee said. “I know this moratorium has been critical for many families and individuals as they cope with the impacts of this virus. People need certainty about whether the moratorium will be extended, and it is important that I provide that certainty today while we work out the final details of the moratorium.”
Additional details and a full announcement will come next week.

Isn’t this great news… I wonder how many institutions of gross rentals, meaning Apartments and such this has undermined.
I would like to give a simple example, a tenet found that they did not have to pay rent, because they couldn’t be held accountable. I know this sounds unreasonable, but it gets more challenging.. when the owner of the building contacted the appropriate authorities, from county.. and State the frustration those individuals had was, we don’t really know what to do! You can’t have even get a court appointment, to memorialize the situation because that process has been frozen, that was 6 months ago. The tenet should try and pay or communicate an intent or.. the officials were overwhelmed six months ago with a huge nightmare. Unfortunately way too many individuals jumped on the band wagon (very short sighted) but will never be able to catch up. One would never extend credit over and over to a bad credit risk. Where’s the incentive for the individual that needs boundaries.
No question that individuals that need help deserve help, it’s the ones that take advantage…
There will be a flushing out of sorts a d it’s possible the market will serve the tenets that were accountable, not necessarily current in rents, but accountable on their intents.
There will be a big swing and some may find housing beyond their grasp just by their own default of poor intents.
These are interesting times and the dross is being purged. The great news is, it’s building great character to those that will!!
