Emily Aring

On Wednesday, March 16, at 10:30 am, the Orcas Island and Lopez Island Garden Clubs’ virtual (Zoom) meeting will feature Emily Aring presenting Gardening in San Juan County for Healthier and Happier People, Plants, and Land.

This presentation will be recorded. The link to the live meeting, hosted by the Orcas Island Library, is:

Emily will describe landscape design as an opportunity to celebrate and support the living web by employing ecological principles and practices that contribute to the natural world, rather than taking from it. We can create environments for healthy soil biota, insects, and animals of many kinds. We can use plants that sequester more carbon, use less water, and prevent erosion. We can be helpful.

Emily is the owner of KaBloom Landscape Design. Among KaBloom’s projects was designing and installing the Orcas Public Library landscaping.  Emily wrote: “This project called for an elegant natural design that would echo the powerful native ecosystem while bringing a sense of the cultivated civilization that a library represents.”
