Richie Steffen, curator for the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden, will be the featured speaker at the September 21 meeting of the Orcas Island Garden Club. The meeting will be held in the Madrona Room of Orcas Center at 10:00 am.
Richie Steffen manages the rare plant collections and heads acquisition of new plants for the Botanical Garden. By using both natives and exotics and blending elements of American, Japanese and British gardening influences the botanical garden follows in the tradition of Elisabeth Carey Miller in establishing a premier garden representing a classic Northwest style of garden design. Richie is a superb photographer and is building an archival image collection at the Miller Garden. His photos can be seen in many regional publications and at www.greatplantpicks.org.
Learn about an array of beautiful and drought tolerant plants that thrive in our Northwest Gardens. Richie will show great plants and plant combinations for both sunny locations and that difficult dry shade bed. Colorful and artfully composted images will leave you with many ideas to try at home.
The Orcas Island Garden Club encourages you to mark your calendars for September 21 and join us at 10:00 am in Orcas Center’s Madrona Room.

How appropriate that he “composted” his images!! :-)
Looking for an organic gardening book that you can recommend to learn more about pesticide-free gardening.
Jeff: Tired to respond to your email address but it bounced. One of the Garden Club Board members recommended: Rodale’s
Illustrated Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening
Hope this helps.
