On Sept. 13th, friends gathered to honor Dave Castor for his many years of service to Moran State Park as a career park ranger and for his absolute dedication to the Kokanee salmon hatchery project at Cascade Lake.
Over the years, many people have been involved in this all-volunteer program, but Dave, with his great enthusiasm, has been the continual thread in its fabric. From Dave’s early days where he tended the hatchery boxes placed right in the creek, to our little hatchery building today, he’s been a part of it every step of its evolution.
Kokanee salmon feed many who like to fish, including humans, osprey (seahawks) and bald eagles.
Dave’s name was added to the Moran Creek Hatchery sign. Tremendous gratitude was expressed.

Dave Castor is my next door neighbor and a wonderful person. He has a lot of interesting stories from his time as a park ranger on Sucia and Patos.
The Friends of Moran congratulate Dave on his service. One day I might even catch one!
I wish I’d known of this celebration. (Dave is the greatest and has done so much for our island and the fisheries.)
Sorry to have missed your special day Dave but you know how much we appreciate you!
