Given what has just happened in South Carolina, this offer to introduce youths “ten years and older” to “shooting” seems completely tone deaf at best. And FYI, I am not an “anti-gun nut”. But the timing of this “free offer” seems wholly inappropriate.
I couldn’t disagree more. Target and trap shooting are sports. My son practiced both, and never felt the need to slaughter innocents.
Thank you, Arthur Winer and Peg Manning. As a South Carolina resident for most for most of the year, I was horrified when I saw this headline in my Orcas Issues newsfeed, even though I live in a different part of the state. I can tell you that we are all still in shock over this shooting, even five days later. I know there was some sort of vigil or observation on Orcas after it took place, and I applaud that — here there have been MANY prayer vigils, sermons in churches, and a huge public outcry for the confederate flag to be removed from the statehouse grounds. Even the President of the US has called for a change in the availability of firearms.
