— from Barbara G. Bedell, Chair, Board of Fire Commissioners —
At its regular meeting on November 19, the Board of Fire Commissioners for San Juan County Fire Protection District #2 appointed Acting Chief Miklos Preysz as Permanent Chief of Orcas Island Fire and Rescue. Minor contractual details will be addressed at the next regular meeting of the Commission on December 21.
Preysz has been Acting Chief of Orcas Island Fire and Rescue since former Chief Kevin O’Brien accepted a position on the mainland this past spring. The Commissioners feel that Chief Preysz has the dedication and experience to successfully lead Orcas Island Fire and Rescue now and into the future.

Congratulations to Mik, and to the Commissioners for an excellent decision! Thank you all for the work you do for our community. Mik is a terrific choice.
Congrat’s Mik!!!!!! Thanks for stepping up and keeping the train on the tracks after Kevin left. Great Job and I know you will continue doing a GREAT Job.
Congratulations Chief from the entire Airlift Northwest team! We look forward to our next call and working with your professionals on Orcas Island.
During Terry’s final years I had several occasions to deal directly with Mik in his medical capacity. He came several times in the middle of the night to pick Terry up off the floor where she collapsed and I could do nothing.
On several other occasions he offered wonderful medical support for Terry and emotional support for me. He is a great person in many ways and a true humanitarian and I feel most grateful to him.
Congratulations Mik!!
