On Sunday, June 1, Washington State Ferries, a division of the the State Department of Transportation, issued the following notice:
Beginning Sunday, June 15, customers must provide their Wave2Go ticket or a copy of their ticket for travel.
Ticket Sellers will no longer enter the 18 digit ticket number for customers who do not have their ticket in-hand at the time of travel. Customers are reminded to plan ahead and have their ticket ready for scanning upon arrival at the ticket booth.

FINALLY!!!! This is really the only solution unless WSDOT become detectives by taking down driver’s licences … which they shouldn’t have to do. I know that there are several people/families who are inconvenienced … not being able to use technological advances …. but until all the problems are worked out, WSDOT should do just what it has decided to do: only accept the original or copies of the original multi-use pass.
Here’s something to investigate:
I have heard that WSF (or maybe Homeland Security) photographs every vehicle that goes through the ferry terminal at Anacortes. So in fact there is a record of evidence for every transaction taking place at the booth. Can anyone confirm that this indeed happens?
“ticket scam?!” I hope it works. What is to stop a holder of a copy from making more copies and abusing THAT? All of this could be solved simply, by going back to tear-out ticket books! No; this is yet another strategy to try to prevent us from sharing tickets, which is why they got rid of the books in the first place. Two Anacortes”customer service” agents at the terminal said this, in those words, with some disdain toward those of us using these tickets. They believe we should not be allowed to share tickets if we’re not really “commuters” going to jobs on the mainland. Yes, they actually said that to me. I told them that there are low-income island people who find the walk-on and drivers’ prices prohibitive. Yes, there have been abuses of numbers, that’s true – but that could, and will, continue even with this system. IMO, the bottom line and not-so- hidden agenda is that they don’t want us sharing tickets, evidenced by their refusal to go back to commuter books. The agent said to contact some advisory board – which one, they did not say. Times have changed and not for the better.
