Dear Fellow Islanders,

Orcas Issues is looking ahead as we enter the last quarter of this year, with colorful leaves, full moons, autumn harvests and winter preparations.

I hear from many of you throughout the year; you are smart, engaged and very passionate about neighborhood, island, county and regional affairs. You have told us that Orcas Issues’ postings are among the top stories that influence and inform you, every day. We want to thank you for your past support that has enabled us to present this island and county resource for what is now our seventh year!

I am so pleased to work with the Orcas Issues community, including not just our staff, but our registered “Community Journalists,” (you can become one by just signing up at https://theorcasonian.com/community-journalism ); our neighbors who work and volunteer so whole-heartedly for the good of our community; the parents and families of the young folks who quickly become the stewards of the future; the artists, peacemakers and party-givers who add to the spirit of well-being that we so value.

Orcas Issues needs your continued support to write and post the stories, photos, editorials and letters that inform us all. We need you to join us through your regular monthly contributions in promoting and strengthening the public life of our region through quality journalism.

We’re asking you, as both newcomers to the island and long-time residents who are part of our heritage and our future, to consider supporting the wages, equipment, time and professionalism of the Orcas Issues news service staff.

The only “ideology” that drives our news site is the commitment to increase public knowledge and respectful discourse in order to make all our lives better.

That view, which comes to you non-stop daily on Orcas Issues, is funded by our readers —no corporate contributions, no tax dollars, no big write-off checks. And our hard-working staff ensures that all contributions go a long way. We’ve established the value, with your help and the help of those who have gone before us, and now we are asking you to help us steward this resource for the future. We continue to maintain our coverage of matters that impact Orcas Islanders and county residents, neighbors of the Salish Sea and citizens of the state, country and the world, and stewards of the earth.

If you too value the resource we have built and the inter-community connections we’ve established, we hope you will give us the support that will allow us to continue. We’re asking that you become a “Sustaining Friend,” or make a contribution at the highest level on a monthly basis (go to www.OrcasIssues.com “Support” or https://theorcasonian.com/support ), or write us an individual check in support of Orcas Issues, which is a registered business in the State of Washington, and mail it to PO Box 582, Eastsound WA 98245.

We want to work with you to protect, enjoy and preserve the intelligent, committed, active, caring community in which we live.  Please act now to support Orcas Issues’ Community Journalism.

Thank you so much,

Margie Doyle
