Sunday, June 11, 1 – 6 p.m., Exhibitionary Gallery
— from Deborah Sparks —
“Painting is the pattern of one’s own nervous system being projected on canvas.”
Kate Geddes, a resident of California and Orcas Island, chose this 1945 Francis Bacon quote to best express her process of painting images that are reflections of her emotional experience of the external world’s impact. Through color, frenetic energetic movement of line, the depth of her message holds you captivated in a no man’s land between the dark forces and the beauty of truth staring out from images that are provocative and strangely familiar.
Geddes will be showing her work in this premier art show, Mummies, Martyrs and Monkeys, at Susan Mustard’s “Exhibitionary” in Eastsound (new gray building across from the entrance to the library).
All are welcome to attend the opening of the art show on Sunday, Jun, 11 from 2 – 6 p.m.
The paintings will be available for viewing Jun. 12 through Jun. 30 by appointment, 415-755-3303 and Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sundays from 12 – 5 p.m.

Wow. This exhibit was visually compelling and intellectually intriguing. It’s great to see another fine art space on the island. And, this one is museum quality. Makes me miss MOMA a little bit less.
