P8080041On Saturday, August 8, Yoram Bauman, “The world’s first and only Stand-Up Economist,” will be on Orcas.

Yoram will give a free performance at the Library Fair from 11:30-12 noon. And in the evening, he’ll do a performance at Random Howse from 6:30-7:30. Sharon Abreu and Mike Hurwicz will the the warm-up act starting promptly at 6 pm. After Yoram’s set, there will be great music to dance to – swing and traditional dance music going into the night.

Dinner at Random Howse is served starting at 6 pm. The kitchen closes at 9, but drinks will continue to flow as long as folks are dancing! Come for a wonderful evening of entertainment and enjoy a scrumptious dinner! There is no cover charge. Donation jars will be on the tables to support the artists.

Now, some more about Yoram Bauman: Having received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington in 2003, Yoram has been blessed with brains and a great sense of humor. He lives in Seattle with his wife Laura, and will be vacationing on Orcas this coming weekend.

Yoram has shared the stage with the late Robin Williams. He has appeared in TIME Magazine and on PBS and NPR. In Seattle, Yoram founded Non-Profit Comedy, a series of benefit shows that raised almost $100,000 for local non-profits. Yoram performs regularly at colleges, corporate events and comedy clubs. Every year he organizes the Humor Session at the American Economic Association annual meeting.

In graduate school he wrote a parody of the “ten principles of economics” in Greg Mankiw’s best-selling textbook, and in 2003 his parody got published in a science humor journal called the “Annals of Improbable Research.”
