Orcas Islanders learn about composting at a workshop sponsored by County Solid Waste Division and WSU Extension.

Last week, Composting Workshops were held on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands, with Janet Hall of Island Co. WSU Extension.

Earth Machine Composters were offered at a reduced rate of $26.93; they normally retail for $160.
These can be used for yard waste as well as food waste. For use with food waste, hardware cloth will need to be added to seal the bottom from critters.

There are 14 left for purchase, and are available after Wednesday March 18 at the Orcas Solid Waste Facility, Lopez Solid Waste Facility and the Public Works Office on San Juan Island.

Call Helen Venada at SJC Public Works if interested and to make arrangements for payment and pick-up. Venada can be reached at 360.370.0503 and the Public Works Office on San Juan Island.
