This is a fun week with great films to enjoy – in person on Orcas, or online from where ever you are. Films that inform and inspire. Even one we produced here in the islands: Island Grown in the San Juans. A BIG thanks to Friday Harbor Film Festival for co-hosting! All Earth Day Orcas events are free thanks to our sponsors.

Coming up, April 25th-26th:

Fri. 25th – ‘Voice of the Earth’ annual opening night poetry, music, and story gathering, Friday Apr 25th at Odd Fellows Hall. Featuring Orcas Island poet Jill McCabe Johnson and Paul ‘Chiyokten’ Wagner (West Saanich). Dinner service by The Kitchen at 5pm. Music, Poetry and Storytelling follows 6-8pm.

Sat. Morning 26th – Procession of the Species Parade bring your costume – or borrow a fun prop – and join the procession. Assemble at library 11am, parade launches at 11:30. Destination is the waterfront at Emmanuel Labyrinth.

Sat. Afternoon 26th – Earth Day Eco Fair with hands on activities, learning resources, music, nature walks, art events, and Community Dance, featuring special guests Rosie Cayou James (Samish) and Paul Chiyokten Wagner (West Saanich). 11:45-2:30 along the waterfront. Earth Day concludes with Requiem and Renewal, poetry and music selections in the Parish Hall, 4-6pm, featuring Peace in the Neighborhood and special guest Althea Wilson (Lummi).
