Saturday, June 30, at Orcas Center
— from Judy Whiting for OPAL Community Land Trust —
Housing touches everyone! That’s the theme for OPAL’s annual fundraising gala to be held on Saturday, June 30, at Orcas Center.
The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres and dinner prepared by Jon Chapelle, executive chef of Doe Bay Cafe, followed by everyone’s favorite “dessert dash” – each table bids for a turn to pick from the bounteous array of goodies prepared by local bakers (such as Lemon Huckleberry Surprise Cake, from Roses, or Riesling Cake with fresh strawberry jam, pistachio meringue and vanilla bean buttercream, by Crystal Mossman).
There will be an update on the April’s Grove rental project from Lisa Byers, OPAL’s executive director, along with an architectural animation of the community, including two typical apartments, created by OPAL trustees Kurt Hunt and Anne Bertino.
A paddle raise will give those present an opportunity to contribute toward the construction of the new neighborhood of 45 townhomes in Eastsound, an answer to the community’s critical need for affordable rentals. (There will be no auction – live or silent.)
The evening has been generously sponsored by a number of local businesses, including Island Market, Islanders Bank, San Juan Insurance, San Juan Propane, Washington Federal Bank, RockIsland Communications, Bossy’s Feltworks, Stoltz-Kau Architects, and Kevin Ranker & Tina Torri.
Tickets may be purchased in advance (not at the door) by calling OPAL at 360-376-3191, or online at www.opalclt.org.
