EncSummary: Mark was headed north up Swanson Channel when he came across the “T060 Brothers”, 21- year -old T060D and 17- year- old T060E southbound off of Otter Bay. These two dispersees belong to the T060 matriline, which contains 6 individuals, their mom, along with three siblings, including eldest, 24-year-old brother, T060C. T060D and T060E are the second and third eldest of three known sons in the group, and it was around the time their youngest sibling, T060G was born in 2019 that they left the once cohesive group. Mark followed these two bulls as they headed south towards Moresby Island. They were initially a half mile apart before joining together and turning more westward towards the north tip of Portland Island. It appeared as though they were headed for the harbour seals at Pellow Islets when Mark ended the encounter after 45 minutes of shadowing them as a couple of commercial whale watch boats were arriving. He later heard that they did indeed have success with a seal kill at that location, as they were reported to have milled around there for several minutes, prey sharing. |
