Update: Road now open
— from San Juan County Public Works —
UPDATE @ 5 p.m., Wednesday, December 11
Temporary repairs have been completed and the road is currently open to traffic (both directions).
Please be advised that portions of the roadway have been repaired with a graveled surface. Caution / advisory signs are in place.
There will be no further notifications regarding this road closure event.
San Juan County Public Works has closed Crescent Beach Dr (west of Montgomery Ln) due to a water main break.
The break was discovered early this morning (December 10th) and the water main has not yet been fully repaired.
The extents of the damage and the integrity of the ground underneath the pavement is unknown at this time (i.e. sinkholes).
The pavement and roadway will be re-evaluated in the morning.
Please use alternate routes.

Yikes… how much water was lost?
This time of year I don’t think the water will be missed
Why not close this road permanently ?
This road will eventually be permanently closed when the sea level rises. Best to plan a connecting road from Country Corner to Eastsound on higher ground now!
Why not start now building the floating bridge between the two separate islands Orc and As will become when the sea level rises? Think of the waterfront properties this will add, even as others become submerged. Money to be made$$$$!
What we’re forgetting is that soon everybody will have waterfront property. It probably won’t be worth much; however, its value might go up just because of the scarcity of property itself.
