Youth going into the 5th grade and older will be able to attend a CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid class on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall. Teenagers are encouraged to participate, and adults are also welcome.

The First Aid class includes adult and child CPR/AED training. The first 2.5 hours will concentrate on first aid general principles, medical emergencies, and injury emergencies.

Then environmental emergencies will be covered, followed by adult and child CPR as well as use of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator).

AHA (American Heart Association) First Aid and CPR satisfy government requirements for First Aid and CPR certification.

Infant CPR may also be covered at the end of class if participants are interested.

Registration is required, and participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. There will be a half-hour lunch break. The cost is $20. Call the Orcas Island Recreation Program (376-5339) to register or on-line at www.orcasrec.org, or pick up forms at the Senior Center or the public library.
