San Juan County’s governmental offices, except for emergency dispatch and response services, will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day

Most of the County’s non-judicial offices, and its solid waste facilities on Orcas and San Juan Islands, will also be closed Friday June  10, which is the second of the County’s five budget-related employee furlough days.

Because of service requirements, two county operations will close on alternate dates: The Elections department will close on May 27th so that it can be open to receive candidate filings on June 10, and the Lopez Island drop box facility has scheduled its furlough day closure for June 8.

County operations which will continue normal, or near-normal operations on June 10  include the Sheriff’s department and the Courts. Furlough days for court employees are staggered in order to meet state requirements for hours of operation.

The remaining designated employee furlough days for County governmental services personnel are: July 5, August 1, and September 2.

The County’s solid waste facilities have a slightly different schedule for the final three furlough closures:

  • Solid Waste Facilities on Orcas and San Juan Island will be closed on July 8, August 5 and September 2.
  • The Lopez Island drop box facility will be closed on July 6, August 3 and August 31.
