Speck Trek Display at Sea View Theatre

What were you doing in 1966? Perhaps enjoying Star Trek on television. Since Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek, the show has become an American cultural icon. Who hasn’t heard “Beam me up, Scotty” or “Live Long and Prosper” or “Warp Speed,” or “He’s dead, Jim”?

So much about Trek has become elements of everyday life – from cell phones, to tablets, universal translators, hypo sprays and now even early teleportation experiments.

Over the last 25 years, life-long Trekkies Ken and Karen Speck have displayed some of their Trek memorabilia at Sea View Theatre each time a Trek movie comes to Orcas Island.

For the next two weekends, enjoy a movie at Sea View Theatre and see some of their Trek collection on display in the lobby case.

One doesn’t have to be a die-hard Trekker to enjoy this new movie (though there are plenty of “easter eggs” within the show to please the devout).

In Star Trek Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Orcas celebrates 50 YEAR of STAR TREK with three showings of the new Trek movie Star Trek Beyond, Friday, September 2, Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4 at 8 p.m.
