— from Washington State Ferries —
WSF expects a record number of ferry travelers this weekend, so please plan ahead if you are visiting the San Juan Islands. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for tall vehicles over 7’2″. To make reservations or check schedules,

When traveling with a reservation, you must check in at the terminal tollbooth 30 minutes prior to your reservation time, so WSF recommends that you arrive at the terminal 45-60 minutes in advance of your sailing time to ensure that you reach the booth with 30 minutes to spare. We do not recommend traveling stand-by for an earlier sailing, because you will forfeit your later-reserved space and risk missing both the earlier departure and your original reserved departure. Travel on your reserved sailing.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we prepare for a busy holiday weekend. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day!

Arrive 45-60 minutes ahead of the ferry sailing time? Isn’t that what we used to do before we had reservations? Didn’t WSF tell us that the reservation system would cut down on our wait time?
Well, ok, to be fair we used to arrive 60 minutes before hand. So I guess this new system saves us 0-15 minutes.
