Mary Jane Elgin's work will be on display next month at the Orcas Artworks in Olga

The Orcas Island Artworks will feature mixed media collage by Mary Jane Elgin through September and October.

Mary Jane was born and raised in Altadena, California. She graduated with a major in art from Pomona College and headed for Japan where she lived for two years, studying Sumie painting and weaving. When she returned to California she continued with classes in life drawing, painting, collage and ceramics at UCLA, Otis and Art Center.

In the 1990’s she began a serious exploration of ceramics at the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre and developed the technique of piercing her ceramics to create botanical and landscape scenes, reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement.

She has taught art classes and has been a freelance muralist and illustrator for the last twenty years.

In the Artworks exhibit she will be displaying examples of her collage work, where her varied studies and her love of diverse disciplines converge to form new visual works of balance, whimsy and beauty.

The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 6.
