||| FROM LYNN BAKER for ORCAS CHORAL SOCIETY |||

This weekend, enjoy beautiful music from Orcas Islanders of all ages as Orcas Choral Society presents its spring concert, Voices for Peace and Hope.

“Spring is here at last! We’ll rejoice in the freshness of the world’s rebirth with Vivaldi’s Gloria, and reflect on the challenges society faces in Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man,” said OCS Artistic Director Bruce Langford.

The choral society sings 7 p.m., Saturday, April 15 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 16 at the Orcas Center. Tickets are available at https://orcascenter.org/ Adult tickets start at $15 and follow the Orcas Center’s choice of prices. Tickets for youth 13-17 are $5. Children 12 and under are free.

In addition, early arrivals will be treated to a bonus performance by the Orcas Youth Chorus and its elementary division, the JOY (Junior Orcas Youth) Chorus. Catch them in the Madrona Room before each choral society concert, at 6 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m., Sunday, with songs from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Great Britain, Canada, Cuba and the United States.

“We’re delighted that Orcas young people will sing their own pieces before joining adults on the main stage,” Langford said. “This is an added treat to a fun and inspiring program.” The youth will sing with the adult chorus in Ola Gjeilo’s “Roots,” commissioned by OCS and other choirs in 2019.
