The Orcas Choral Society Board of Directors has announced that it is beginning the search process for a new director. Catherine Pederson, together with Louellen McCoy, founded the Orcas Choral Society in 1976. Catherine has served as the Artistic/Musical Director of the group since that time and will retire at the end of this 2009/10 performance season.
The Orcas Choral Society is currently composed of approximately 60 adult singers who meet weekly for rehearsals. Although there are no auditions required to join, members must be able to meet the musical standards of the director. Performances during the season include the holiday concert in December, participation in the School Benefit Concert in March, and the spring concert in May. Other musical opportunities for the group have included special concerts, memorial observances, combining voices with other musical groups in unique performances, workshops and occasional off-island travels.
The Board looks forward to hearing from any potential candidates. Inquiries can be directed to orcaschoral@centurytel.net
