There is an active chickenpox outbreak currently in a preschool facility on Orcas Island. There are currently six cases in children and one adult case. Chickenpox can be a mild disease but occasionally can require advanced care and even hospitalization.

Of particular concern are pregnant women that may be exposed that have not been either vaccinated or had disease earlier in life.

Please note that children should be isolated until lesions have scabbed over. For all clearance for returning to the school setting is NOT allowed if there are just a few lesions or if they are covered over by clothing or a dressing.
