Virtual public meetings next week, May 25 and 26
We’re just days away from our Spring 2021 online community webinars! Join members of the WSF Executive Team and me for an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments at one of next week’s virtual public meetings. To participate, register online in advance for either 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, or 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 26. Both webinars will cover the same material. If you are unable to join, a video of each meeting will be posted online by Friday, May 28.
The upcoming meetings will focus on service updates,
proposed tariff changes and our continued response to COVID-19.
New Mukilteo terminal wins project award
Our new Mukilteo terminal is the winner of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) International 2021 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award! This award honors a transportation project led by women that meaningfully benefits their communities and regions. Chief of Staff Nicole McIntosh accepted the award for us last week during the WTS Virtual Annual Conference. In presenting the award, WTS Board Chair Paula Hammond talked of how Nicole “inspired others and encouraged leadership… with teamwork and a shared desire to see the project not only succeed but become a model for future projects.” The project first won the same award from the WTS Puget Sound Seattle Chapter to move on to this competition. Great job all!
Our new Mukilteo terminal project had more than 60 women in key roles, including
many female leads with our construction contractors.
National Maritime Day
Saturday is National Maritime Day, a time we recognize the industry’s significance on keeping our country’s people and economy moving. In honor of this day, I thank all our mariners for their hard work and dedication in providing the region with a safe transportation option every day of the year! Not only will you find them out on the water, but also among our land-based teams, such as our terminals, Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility and in our administrative offices.
Our vessel crews consist of skilled mariners who are trained in
many aspects of maritime safety, including first aid and firefighting.
Some of the newest members of the maritime industry include these new terminal hires.
So far, we have trained 42 new terminal employees this year. Congratulations!
