The Ranks of Orcas : From the spectacular storm of 2006

A show of large dramatic prints by Orcas Island art photographer Martin Taylor will be presented in the Orcas Center Lobby during November. The title of the show is : “C’est la vie et aux revoir”. The show opens with a reception Friday November 6th at 5:30 p.m. The show will run through December 2nd.  Martin has been crafting images primarily of Orcas Island, its animals and its residents since 2006. Some of his images use innovative software techniques to modify the images and in a few cases the images originate solely as personal digital inventions. Martin is shifting his perspective and moving on to a new body of work. This show is a retrospective look at his work over the past decade. There will be a dramatic set of prints shown at their best in the lobby of the Orcas Center. They are all crafted to Martin’s usual extremely high standards and will stand the test of time decades into the future. All are printed on archival quality natural cotton-based print media using archival pigment inks and protected from UV degradation. Some are large canvases and some are traditionally framed prints.

Because Martin wants to create space for a new body of work and make sure these prints go into appreciative hands this show will use an innovative experiment in pricing for Orcas Center shows. All prints will be available for silent auction bidding. Each piece will have a very low minimum bid of $100 per piece that is well below the cost of materials for each piece. There will be an auction book in the lobby where anybody can place a bid on a piece above the previous highest bid. The highest bids received by Friday November 20th will take each piece. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take home gorgeous prints of Orcas favorite images at amazing prices. Name your own price.

This is the last time Martin will ever be showing his past work. He will only show new work in any future shows, galleries or sales. Some of his work is currently showing and selling at Orcas Artworks and will continue to do so only through the end of 2015. His work there will come down permanently in the New Year.

During the same period there will be an “On & Off The Wall” open art show in the Madrona Room. That show will share the same reception @ 5:30 p.m. Friday November 6th.
