Turtleback Bird Walk with Kim Middleton at Turtleback Mountain Preserve. 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bring binoculars and water. Middleton has been an avid bird watcher since she was ten years old.  She has dedicated her life to the conservation of birds through field research, rehabilitation, and public education. Easter Egg Hunt at Cascade Lake Shelter Area, The Orcas Island Lions Club invite Orcas kids to take part in the annual Easter egg hunt!  It will start at 10 a.m. sharp – rain or shine!  Be sure to bring your egg baskets.  All kids get $1 off Lily ice cream cones, and 3 lucky kids will receive vouchers for a free ice cream cone!

Orcas High School Sailing Team Bake Sale and Car Wash OHS sailing team won both Varsity and JV NWISA Doublehanded District Championships last weekend on Orcas!  The Varsity will move on to represent NWISA at ISSA Nationals in Austin Texas May 6-8, so the Team is holding a Bake Sale & Car Wash this Saturday 1 – 5 p.m. at Island Market & Key Bank to help raise funds for this event.

Wine Tasting at the Wine Shop at Country Corner First winemaker tasting of the year.  Chris Primus, winemaker from San Juan Vineyards, will be here to introduce us to long-time favorites and some new releases.  The tasting will be from 1 to 4 p.m. We have established an “artist corner” in the shop and the current exhibitor is Glenna Richards.  Glenna is a well-known islander who does both watercolor and pastel.  Her work will be here through May.  376-6907.

Salmonberry School Afternoon Tea and Open House, 1 to 3 p.m. Visit the wonder-full early childhood classroom at Salmonberry. Come learn more about holistic education and what makes it such a dynamic  learning environment for the children.  Meet the teachers, explore the classroom and the school grounds, try out an art activity, and play. Benefit Concert starring Susan Osborn and the Orcas a Cappella Choir at the Deer Harbor Community Club at 4 p.m. All of the proceeds will go to the ” Helping Hands – Japan Fund “, managed by the Orcas Island Community Church and will be sent directly to the City of Sendai, Japan to help them recover and rebuild from the recent devastating Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear disasters.

Deer Harbor Women’s Auxiliary Easter Egg Hunt Children and parents of Orcas Island are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt on the lawns of the Deer Harbor Inn located at 33 Inn Lane just off Deer Harbor Road.  The Deer Harbor Inn will be providing refreshments for the egg hunters as well as their parents. 3 p.m.

Poetry Slam – Off at Doe Bay.Join Artsmith for the first ever Orcas Island performance poetry competition with Seattle slam poets Maya Hersh, Greg Brisendine, and Steven Wilbur.
