On Thursday, March 27, 2014 about 11:10 p.m. a single vehicle rollover crash occurred on Cattle Point Rd at Golf Course Rd. on San Juan Island. A 2008 Saturn Vue SUV was traveling south on Cattle Point Rd at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate the curve at Golf Course Rd.
The vehicle crossed the oncoming lane before leaving the roadway, and then went airborne, crossing Golf Course Rd before landing and rolling end over end destroying a Century Link connection box containing fiber optic lines.
Phone and internet service to 200+ customers was disrupted in the crash.
The 35 year old Friday Harbor man operating the vehicle was alone in the car. He suffered only minor cuts and bruises in the crash. He was arrested for DUI.
Additional charges may be pending. He was wearing safety restraints. The airbags did not deploy in the crash.
