||| FROM LENA KASSA for ORCAS SENIOR CENTER |||
Orcas Senior Center (OSC) doubled its number of participants served through an average of 83 events per month in 2023. OSC requires more space to meet the growing demand to serve community members of all ages, interests, and abilities.
The nonprofit has begun a $1.5M capital campaign to purchase the 49% portion of the facility at 62 Henry Road in Eastsound owned by San Juan County. OSC is working closely with the county to achieve a gradual transition with no sudden disruption to those services.
OSC is not a county government agency and receives no tax dollars. Donations to the campaign may be made online through the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s website at http://tinyurl.com/OSCBuildingFund. You also may simply mail a check payable to Orcas Senior Center and write “OSC Building Purchase” on the memo line to PO Box 1653, Eastsound, WA 98245.

Will the county services now housed in the Senior Center building be kept on Orcas Island? The Senior Center information says they are working with the county to keep an abrupt end to those services from happening, but what is planned for long term?
It would be helpful for the community to see the long term strategic plan for the use of the building.
