Children ages 10-14 will spend a weekend June 5-7 (Friday 5 p.m. to Sunday 4 p.m.) doing exciting creative activities on Canoe Island French Camp.

Activities will include throwing a ceramic pot on a wheel, landscaping painting, writing a play, preparing photographs and graphics, or writing a newspaper story, poem or story for publication.

Children will also map inter-tidal marine communities, investigate the ancient fire history of a forest and island, learn to turn a piece of wood into artwork, or do hands-on discovery of the geology of the islands.

There will be opportunities to swim in a heated pool, sea kayaking or sailing as well as enjoying great food and company.

Evenings will include singing around a campfire or peering through a telescope into the skies above.

Kids are encouraged to join with an exciting group of artists, writers, and scientists from the San Juan Islands for a fun and enriching weekend.

Transportation to the island will be provided. Meals will be provided, and will be healthful, substantial, and enjoyable. The cost is $45.

Call the Orcas Island Recreation Program (376-5339) to register or on line at www.orcasrec.org. This opportunity is available for children from all islands in San Juan County.
