— from Kristen Wilson —

A Beginning Strings class for young students interested in playing violin, viola or cello, is now underway. Pamela Wright, Strings Director at Orcas Schools, teaches the class for interested students in 2nd to 4th grade. The group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:05 p.m. right after school for about 50 minutes. (Students younger than 2nd grade might be considered if they have the maturity to join an older group.)

The program is sponsored by Orcas Island Park and Recreation District, but enrollment is through Mrs. Wright. Classes are held in the music room in the Orcas Elementary School and will continue through May. The culmination will be an All-Strings Concert on May 18, with all Orcas strings students performing, from Beginning Strings through grade 12. The concert will also feature violinist Monique Mead, international performer and Artistic Advisor to the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.

For more information e-mail Mrs. Wright at PWright@orcas.k12.wa.us.
