||| FROM SAN JUAN COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS |||
The San Juan County Elections Office is notifying the public of a special three-day filing period from August 11 through August 13, 2025, for candidates to file for the five-member board of the proposed Lopez Island Park and Recreation District and for those offices where no candidates filed during the regular candidate filing week. If there is still a void in candidacy after the special three-day filing period, the office will not appear on the November 4, 2025, General Election ballot.
On July 15, the San Juan County Council agreed to include a ballot proposition regarding the formation of a park district on Lopez Island in the November 4, 2025, General Election. Additionally, a board of five Park and Recreation District Commissioners will be elected on the same ballot, with new commissioners serving a staggered six-year term.
Supported by a citizens committee on Lopez Island called Rally for the Rec, the proposed park district would help “secure the long-term viability of essential programs, create new sustainable opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for all residents on Lopez Island,” according to their website.
Additionally, the special three-day filing period will be open to the offices listed below.
