Everyone seems to have heard about the Island Marble; but what about the Ochre Ringlet and Propertius Duskywing? Discover the amazing world of our islands’ butterflies and moths with Kwiaht ecologist Russel Barsh and learn how you can contribute to current research on Orcas.
The islands host a diverse community of butterflies and large, often colorful moths. Many are regionally rare, and all of them have amazing stories to tell. Some of them are migratory; Monarchs are not the only long-distance migratory butterflies — we have some others here! Others are important pollinators, and others appear to be critical for the survival of island bats. One can even roll up its wings like a Venetian blind!
The new illustrated handbook, Butterflies of the San Juan Islands, will be available for purchase.
This is a free event; donations are gratefully appreciated toward Kwiaht and the care of the Odd Fellows Hall.
