— from Rhea Miller —
On Sunday August 16, the Black Lives Matter memorial [on Lopez Island] was restored. Previously portraits had been torn off the signs, and they were repainted and added to the memorial. A community meeting was held outside the Lopez Community Center.
In light of the escalating violence, everyone was encouraged to maintain nonviolence. A committee was formed to plan a ceremony to decommission the signs on Labor Day Sunday, September 6, at 12 noon outside the Community Center.
Threats were made again on Sunday by opponents to the signs, vowing to
destroy them. Until September 6th, there is a sign-up for a nightly vigil at the signs. Nonviolence training is to be announced.

Rhea, Thanks to you and to the Lopez community for working to stamp out these hateful actions.
The memorial should not have been vandalized. Deaths while in police custody cannot happen. Racism and violence of any kind is unacceptable. That being said, the Black Lives Matter movement has been hijacked. Radicals and criminal elements have infiltrated the organization. When BLM leaders and “protesters” openly call for rioting, looting, violence against police and those with dissenting views, and a general complete intolerance of any viewpoint other than the extreme current message, it turns people off. BLM would be better suited re-branding so that they disassociate themselves from the criminals and get back to the original message. The despicable acts occurring in the streets, supported by BLM “protesters,” doesn’t do the movement any good. See woke.net youtube channel and really go through the footage of the “protests” especially the latter half of each night. Dig into the facts and make up your own mind. Are the “protests” helping or hurting the message?
I find it so weird that anyone could be against the idea that Black Lives Matter.
