Under a big white tent and with the purchase of a dozen tickets, I made my way inside the crowded carnival of aromas, to sample the different cuisines that Orcas Island restaurants (and brewery) had to offer. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, Eastsound/ Village Green was transformed into the annual Bite of Orcas where the specialties of island chefs were showcased. The tasty annual event is presented to benefit the Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
The portions were generous, and with a limited appetite and limited number of tickets in hand, it was tough for me to decide which line to get in to. I ended up going with the Poke Nachos from Flyin’ Hawaiian Sushi, a pulled beef sandwich from Olga Café, and an Island Hoppin’ IPA to put it all down.
All food items also came with a smile from the vendor. I enjoyed both.
From pies and cookies, to seafood and salads, every eater looked to be enjoying their own Bite of Orcas this weekend.
