Saturday, April 23, 7 to 11:00 am at Cascade Lake
— from the Friends of Moran State Park–
Celebrating our 20th year! The derby is a celebration of the beginning of fishing season The fishing derby has been taking place since 1996. The event began thanks to Bill Yarlott, a fishing enthusiast who was instrumental in keeping Cascade Lake stocked with fish like Kokanee, rainbow trout and bass.
The event is co-sponsored with Orcas Outfitters in Eastsound and Kings Marine in Friday Harbor, who both generously donated prizes for the event. Friends of Moran is honored to have their support and participation for so many years. Come join us for breakfast and the thrill of catching your first big fish! Everyone goes home with a prize.

Thank you to Orcas Outfitters and Kings Marine, as well Friends of Moran for continuing to sponsor this event. Bill was very proud of this event. Last year he returned from Hawaii so he could participate in it with his son and grandson. Unfortunately, Bill passed away a couple of months later. Having all three generations of Yarlott’s at the Derby will always be a treasured memory. The tradition will continue with our family.
