||| FROM ROBERT WAUNCH for AIRHAWKS FLYING CLUB |||
On Wednesday morning, November 2, Bethany Carter turned 17 and flew to Bellingham to take her Practical examination for her Private Pilot Certificate.
The first part of the Practical is an oral examination by an FAA Designated Check Airman that includes knowledge of aircraft mechanical, performance and limitations plus FAA regulations, weather, navigation, communications, airport operations and emergencies. This is followed by an in-flight check demonstrating her ability to operate an aircraft safely within the airspace system in a variety of normal and emergency situations. Bethany passed with flying colors and is now a fully qualified Private Pilot, accomplishing this task on the first day she was eligible to take the tests.
One year ago, on November 2, Bethany had her first solo flight on her 16th birthday, again, the first day she was eligible to solo.
Bethany’s next goal is her instrument flight rating, and she has already started. This will also require a written, oral and a flight examination as well as a designated minimum number of flight hours.
Bethany is the 23rd High School aged student to receive an Airhawks Flying Club scholarship. Please join the Airhawks Flying Club in congratulating Bethany and her instructor Tony Simpson for this very special accomplishment.
