||| FROM LISA WASKO DEVETTER for ORCAS GARDEN CLUB |||

Please join the Orcas Island Garden Club on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 when we welcome Associate Professor from Washington State University, Lisa Wasko DeVetter. Lisa will present best practices for choosing, growing and harvesting blueberries and strawberries specific to the Pacific Northwest.  Home grown berries are better tasting, more cost effective and satisfying than anything you can buy in the store. Nothing beats enjoying the fruits of your garden labor like a mouth-popping sun-warmed berry!

Lisa leads the statewide Small Fruit Horticulture program and is based at the Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon, Washington.  Originally from Iowa, Lisa developed her agricultural interests while spending summers on her family’s farm and helping her grandmother cultivate a diverse farmyard garden.

Lisa joined WSU in 2014. Her primary research is applied physiology and sustainable production of berry crops in the Pacific Northwest. She has developed a diverse research and extension program which focuses on small fruit horticulture.

The presentation begins at 10 am at the Orcas Center and will be followed by social time. The presentation will also be available via Zoom.
