— from David Turnoy —

Between 50 and 60 hardy souls attended the Eastsound impeachment rally Tuesday evening, December 17, at the Village Green. The message is pretty simple: the president used military aid to pressure a foreign government (Ukraine) to interfere in our elections, then he tried to cover it up.  Therefore he should be impeached and removed from office because no one is above the law.

We discussed strategies for helping to make this happen. Since some Republican senators have already vowed to vote against conviction without even being presented with the evidence, and because leading Republican senators are collaborating with the president to plan a strategy to be done with impeachment ASAP, the suggestion has been made that once the articles of impeachment are approved in the House, the House should hold onto them until the Senate will guarantee a fair trial.

In that regard, it was suggested that we write to Speaker Nancy Pelosi to make this suggestion. We talked about a number of other issues, including a couple of passionate younger folks decrying our involvement in ongoing wars.

Another way to help is to contact friends and relatives in states where Republican senators are up for re-election next year. Those states include AK, AR, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, KS, KY, LA, ME, MS, MT, NC, NE, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, WV, WY. Ask your friends and relatives to contact their senators and demand that they follow the special oath they take before the impeachment trial.
