Learn about island bat’s distinguishing features and natural history, as well as questions being asked by researchers who study these remarkable creatures. This evening field trip with Rochelle Kelly, UW PhD Candidate, is an opportunity to learn about the island’s local bat species, how they fit into the ecology, and how they utilize preserve lands. Rochelle will demonstrate methods used in surveying bat populations, including mist netting and audio monitoring.
Meet and park at Judd Cove Preserve. Be sure to bring warm clothing and headlamps/flashlights are recommended.
