From Milene Henley, San Juan County Auditor

In order to ensure an informed electorate, state law requires the County Auditor, whenever possible, to include in the local Voters’ Pamphlet arguments advocating adoption and rejection of local ballot measures.

The Orcas Island School District has submitted a ballot measure for the November general election.  This measure would increase the property tax levy in the district by approximately 28¢ per thousand dollars of assessed value for one year in order to pay for capital improvements to the Nellie Milton Elementary School. The levy will raise $900,000.

If you are interested in writing an argument against the measure, please contact the County Auditor, Milene Henley, at 360-370-7558 as soon as possible. Writers favoring the measure have already been appointed.
