The AT&T website, downdetector.com is currently bristling with reports of outages, with reports originating from Mountain View, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Kill Devil Hills, Manteo, San Francisco, and Stillwater. San Juan County is among those affected.

Brendan Cowan, San Juan County Department of Emergency Management first alerted the media of a problem with AT&T services, referring us to the Rock Island website for updates. RockIsland.com indicates a fiber break on the mainland was the cause:

“The mainland fiber break in Anacortes has been fixed and fully restored. All Rock Island fiber customers are now back online. All T-Mobile cell phones remain online and are fully un-throttled. Rock Island LTE Fixed Wireless customers are online and are being un-throttled at the moment.”

Emergency 911 service was not affected and continues to function normally.

As of press time, all AT&T service has been restored to San Juan County. The rest of the country? Who knows?
