Orcas Center’s Visual Arts Committee (VAC) is pleased to present the next Art Opening, Friday, March 21 from 5:30pm – 7pm with featured artist Peter Olesen in the lobby, and a community show of “Art and the Elements” in the Madrona Room.
Peter Olesen is a Danish-born, Orcas resident known for his emotive and evocative landscape photography. With a career spanning over six decades, Olesen has exhibited his work nationally and has garnered widespread recognition for his unique ability to capture the essence of spaceand time that resonates deeply with viewers. His photography has been featured in numerous publications, galleries and exhibitions, as well as in private and corporate collections.
Olesen’s exhibit, “An Echo of Light” features landscapes of the American West with black and white gelatin silver prints – A process which involves coating film and paper with a light-sensitive silver gelatin emulsion which is exposed and then crafted in the darkroom for a final print. The process produces images unequaled in depth and richness of tone.
Considering himself a “Witness to Light,” Olesen aims to faithfully record and interpret a sense of place. “Landscape photography is my way of connecting with the world” Olesen states, “It requires me to be present before releasing the shutter and it’s still exciting to see that image appear in the developer and discovering all the possibilities for a completed print that expresses a moment when light revealed its magic”.
Come to the opening of Olsen’s show, “An Echo of Light” on Friday, March 21 starting at 5:30pm. And don’t miss the community show, “Art and the Elements” in the Madrona Room.
Light refreshments will be available, and Ron Myers will be at the piano. This show will be on display through April 22. For more information visit www.OrcasCenter.org/VAC or email vac@OrcasCenter.org.
