In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate and highlight our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to again offer daily poetry during April.
No Box
— Sadie Bailey —
will conceal anyone
who has something to hide.
no prison bars
can contain someone
who is already free.
we want superpowers
to blast through
the terror we feel
at this stranger in our body,
when what we need
is stillness of chrysalis;
the hanged one.
even the biggest box
will become too small,
wings pressing up tight against
that old shell of fear,
test-rattling for cracks,
a way out
those old distorted mirrors
in the funhouse of fools –
some glass has to break.
the soul knows the poetry
of things we can never speak

“the soul knows the poetry of things we can never speak.” That belongs on my wall. Thank you, Sadie.
