In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.

Refugees on the Beach

Poles pilings planks,
edging each other in the shallows,
whispering in scouring tones of
the wake that brought them here.

Docks posts solid stays,
drifting in routeless wooden scatter.
Identities lost then slapped along
by a driven wind.

They rise and fall entangled by the shore.
Where have we seen their like before?
